In the Charente Maritime region, sailing comes naturally to mind : sailing in all its forms, centered on La Rochelle and the Minimes Marina, with berths for 3,200 yachts.
IN THE PERTUIS CHARENTAIS
Throughout the year, from Royan to La Rochelle, a vaste area of water provides a perfect sailing zone for quality cruising. Hidden behind the islands of Ré, Aix, Madame and Oléron, the lake created by the Breton and Antioche narrows ("pertuis") is protected from the ocean's worst tempers.
Yachtsmen enjoy mooring in the picturesque little ports of these ever-popular islands.

MEANDERING FROM ISLAND TO ISLAND

ILE D’OLERON

Wandering on foot, breathing the air, cruising ...."Radiant Oléron" is a multifaceted destination, with a wide variety of  scenery for nature and sea lovers alike.  There is something for everyone
Let the rythm of the tides guide your steps on this unique little patch of land.

ILE D’AIX

Unlike its neighbours, the only access is by boat. The island charm of this little 2-mile long crescent, with its soft colours and fewer than 200 inhabitants,  is reserved exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists. Small bays, holm oaks, pines, tamarisk, broom and gorse line its coast. This island with its wild character provides one of the best views of Fort Boyard

ILE DE RE

The island paradise of Ré is on a human scale, whose charm never ceases to surprise the visitor. Each if its ten villages is situated by the sea. Four of them have ports which shelter fishing vessels as well as sailing boats. The Baleines Lighthouse, the ports of Saint Martin de Ré, La Flotte and Fier d'Ars are among the most renowned sites.

Where the sea meets the land

In Charente Maritime, land and sea meet each other and unite as though neither wished to ever cast off their moorings.

Come and discover the Charente estuary, and land in Rochefort, a city that is best explored with the flow of its river.
